White Marsh, MD (May 27, 2026) – At least one person was injured Tuesday morning following a serious multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in White Marsh. The collision shut down all southbound lanes near King Avenue as emergency crews worked along the interstate.
Traffic cameras from the Maryland Department of Transportation showed police, fire crews, and medics assisting those involved in the wreck. A Maryland State Police helicopter landed on the highway and transported at least one injured person to a hospital for further treatment.
Officials have not confirmed how many vehicles were involved or how many people were hurt in the crash. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use Maryland Route 43 to the outer loop of Interstate 695 while the roadway remained blocked.
Investigators continue working to determine what caused the highway collision on Tuesday morning. We are thinking of everyone affected and hope those injured recover quickly.
Why Serious Interstate Crashes Often Require Medevac Helicopters
Medical helicopters are sometimes used after major interstate crashes when a person needs rapid transport to a trauma center. Heavy traffic, lane closures, and long travel distances can slow ground ambulances, making air transport the fastest option for critically injured patients. Helicopter crews also allow hospitals to prepare specialized care before the patient arrives.
Multi-vehicle crashes on busy highways may require full roadway shutdowns while emergency personnel assist injured people and clear damaged vehicles. Investigators often examine traffic flow, braking distances, and roadway conditions to better understand how the sequence unfolded. Secondary crashes can also become a concern during backups, especially when drivers approach stopped traffic at highway speeds.
