What Happens During Investigations of School Bus Crashes?
When a school bus is involved in a roadway collision, investigators often review vehicle positioning, traffic signals, and driver actions leading up to the crash. Even when students are not on board, these crashes can still cause major traffic delays and require careful examination due to the size and weight of the vehicles involved.
Bus crashes involving multiple vehicles may also prompt investigators to examine braking distances, roadway markings, and visibility at intersections. Medical evaluations for drivers and passengers can continue after the roadway is cleared, especially if people report pain hours later. Investigators may also review surveillance footage or witness statements to better understand how the traffic sequence unfolded before the vehicles came together.
