Attica Township, MI (April 15, 2026) – Two drivers were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon following a head-on collision on Imlay City Road in Attica Township. The crash occurred near Mitchell Lake Road at approximately 3:42 p.m. on April 14.
Authorities said Lapeer County 911 received reports of a silver sedan driving erratically on Imlay City Road around 3:38 p.m. Minutes later, officials were notified of a collision involving two vehicles in the same area.
Investigators believe a 37-year-old woman from Imlay City was driving a 2011 silver Honda Civic eastbound in the westbound lane. A 29-year-old man from Capac attempted to avoid the oncoming car by moving toward the center line, but the vehicles collided head-on.
Emergency units responded and transported both drivers to McLaren Lapeer Hospital. Both were reported to be in stable condition. The vehicles left the roadway due to the impact.
The incident remains under review, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with both drivers as they recover.
What Can Lead to Head-On Collisions on Rural Roads
Head-on crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic, especially on rural roads with fewer physical barriers between lanes. Even a brief lapse in attention or loss of control can place a vehicle in the wrong lane.
Higher speeds on open roads can increase the severity of impact. Drivers may have limited time to react when another vehicle suddenly enters their path.
Impairment, distraction, or medical issues can also contribute to wrong-way driving. In many cases, quick evasive action by other drivers may reduce but not always prevent a collision.
