Why Crashes Involving Tractor-Trailers Can Be Severe
Collisions involving tractor-trailers often result in significant damage because of the size and weight difference between commercial trucks and passenger vehicles. When a smaller vehicle collides with a large truck, the impact forces can be much greater for the occupants of the smaller vehicle.
Highway crashes involving trucks frequently occur near exits or merging areas where traffic patterns change. Drivers may slow, merge, or switch lanes in these areas, increasing the risk of sudden stops or side impacts.
Large trucks also require longer distances to stop compared to passenger vehicles. When traffic becomes congested during busy commute periods, even a brief delay in reaction time can lead to a serious collision.
