Austin, TX (January 9, 2026) – A tragic pedestrian crash on Wednesday night in downtown Austin claimed the life of an individual after a collision involving a CapMetro bus near the intersection of West Sixth St and Rio Grande St.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on January 7 in an area known for heavy foot traffic, close to Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden. According to initial information, a pedestrian was struck by a CapMetro bus under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Emergency responders from Austin arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported. Despite lifesaving efforts, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the location. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
The bus involved remained on site while investigators worked to document evidence and gather statements.
