Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a crash more likely to be fatal?
Factors such as the vehicle rolling over, occupants being thrown from the vehicle, and the distance to emergency care can all raise the chances a crash ends in death. Off-road vehicles like UTVs carry added risk because they can roll on uneven terrain.
Does speed affect whether people survive a crash?
Yes. Higher speed increases the force involved in a collision or rollover, which raises the risk of serious injury or death, even over short distances or on trails.
Why does wearing a seat belt or harness matter so much?
A properly worn restraint keeps occupants inside the vehicle during a rollover or sudden impact, lowering the chance of being thrown out or crushed.
What should families do after a fatal crash like this?
Families can contact the investigating agency, in this case the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, for updates on the investigation and for guidance on obtaining official reports once they are released.
