Pedestrian Safety Concerns in Bakersfield
Pedestrian crashes often occur in areas without marked crosswalks or adequate lighting. When a person crosses outside a designated area, drivers may have less time to react, especially at night.
Speed, visibility, and traffic flow can all affect how quickly a driver can stop. Even when drivers remain at the scene and cooperate, the outcome of a pedestrian crash can be severe due to the lack of physical protection.
In cities like Bakersfield, road design and lighting conditions can influence pedestrian risk. Marked crossings, streetlights, and clear signage may help reduce these incidents by improving visibility for both drivers and pedestrians.
