Why Traffic Signal Reviews Matter After Intersection Crashes
Traffic signal timing and right-of-way patterns are often reviewed after serious roadway collisions at intersections. Investigators may examine whether drivers entered on a green, yellow, or red light and whether visibility issues affected reaction times. Camera footage, witness statements, and vehicle data can also help piece together the moments before vehicles entered the crossing.
Intersections with multiple lanes or turning traffic may present additional risks, especially during overnight hours when visibility changes and traffic speeds can vary. Road markings, lighting, and signal placement are also commonly evaluated when determining how a crash unfolded. In many cases, investigators combine physical evidence from the roadway with digital information from nearby businesses or traffic systems to better understand the sequence of movements leading up to the collision.
