Raymond, WI (May 26, 2026) – Multiple people were hurt in a serious collision on Monday, May 25, along I-94 westbound near Raymond, Wisconsin. Emergency units arrived after reports of people trapped inside damaged vehicles.

The Caledonia Fire Department arrived and worked to free those inside the vehicles involved in the collision. A medical helicopter, Flight for Life, airlifted at least one person to a hospital. Westbound lanes on the interstate remained closed for nearly five hours before reopening later in the day.

How Highway Emergencies on Interstates Are Managed

Highway emergencies on interstates may require coordinated efforts from emergency units, especially when multiple people are involved, and traffic must be controlled quickly. Medical helicopters are sometimes used when rapid hospital access is needed for seriously hurt people, particularly when road access is limited or delayed.

Communication between ground crews and air medical teams helps prioritize transport decisions. Fire crews may also perform extrication when passengers are trapped inside damaged vehicles. Traffic closures are common while debris is cleared and vehicles are removed from the roadway. Medical teams may later review roadway conditions, vehicle positions, and witness accounts to clarify how circumstances developed to improve future safety planning.
