How Left-Turn Collisions Often Occur at Intersections
Crashes involving left turns are a frequent concern at intersections, especially on busy or high-speed roads. These accidents often happen when a driver turning left misjudges the speed or distance of oncoming traffic.
Visibility can also affect how these collisions unfold. Obstructions, weather conditions, or traffic flow may limit a driver’s ability to clearly see approaching vehicles. Even a brief delay in decision-making can increase the risk of impact.
Vehicle position and timing are also factors. Drivers traveling straight typically have the right of way, which means turning vehicles must wait for a safe gap. When that gap is too small, crashes can occur quickly and with significant force, particularly on roads with higher speed limits.
