How Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Interstate Highways Often Happen
Multi-vehicle crashes on busy interstates often occur during peak travel times, such as early morning commutes. Heavy traffic, sudden stops, and lane changes can increase the risk of chain-reaction collisions, especially when drivers are travelling at highway speeds.
When several vehicles are involved, the position of each car after impact can affect traffic flow and safety. Vehicles that spin or stop at unusual angles may block multiple lanes or shoulders, leading to backups and secondary hazards for approaching drivers.
Road conditions, visibility, and following distance are also common factors reviewed after incidents of this type. Even a brief delay in reaction time can have additional consequences when traffic is moving quickly on major routes like interstate highways.
