BEAUMONT, Jefferson County, Texas, Oct. 31, 2026 — Two drivers were hurt on Wednesday, October 28, when a pickup truck and an SUV collided on State Highway 105 near Tram Road, overturning the truck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened at the intersection of SH 105 and Tram Road, close to the Beaumont city limits, at about 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, DPS Sgt. Shana Clark said. A Dodge pickup was heading east on SH 105 and attempting a left turn onto Tram Road to go north when it pulled into the path of a westbound Mazda SUV, according to the preliminary investigation. Investigators said the pickup driver failed to yield, and the Mazda struck the truck's passenger side, causing the pickup to roll onto its side.
The Mazda's driver, identified by DPS as a 17-year-old Beaumont girl, was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. Her passenger, a 13-year-old boy, was not hurt. The pickup's driver, a 51-year-old Beaumont woman, was also hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Crews from Jefferson County Emergency Services District No. 1, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and DPS responded to the scene. The crash shut down westbound lanes on the highway and closed one eastbound lane while crews worked; all lanes have since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed make a crash worse? Yes. Higher speed gives drivers less time to react and increases the force involved in a collision, which usually means more serious injuries.
Why is distracted driving a problem at intersections like this one? A driver who is not fully focused on cross traffic or oncoming vehicles has less time to notice a hazard and may fail to yield before turning, which is a common factor in intersection crashes.
What should someone do right after a crash like this? Move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, check for injuries, and wait for police to document the scene before leaving.
