Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered such a serious risk on highways?
Even a few seconds off the road at highway speed can close the gap between two vehicles enough to prevent a driver from reacting in time, which is especially dangerous on two-lane roads where opposing traffic passes close by.
How do wet or slick roads contribute to crashes like this one?
Wet pavement reduces tire traction, lengthens stopping distances and makes it easier for a vehicle to drift out of its lane, increasing the chance of a head-on collision on undivided highways.
What should someone do immediately after a crash like this?
Move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and wait for law enforcement and medical responders to arrive and document the scene before discussing fault.
