Frequently Asked Questions
What should someone do if they are evaluated by paramedics after a fire?
Even if injuries seem minor, it is wise to let EMS check for smoke inhalation, burns, or other effects that may not be immediately obvious, and to follow up with a doctor if symptoms appear later.
How do house fires like this typically start?
Causes vary widely and can include electrical faults, heating equipment, cooking accidents, or other sources. Investigators typically examine the point of origin before determining a cause.
What should residents do if trapped or unsure of an escape route during a fire?
Stay low to avoid smoke, close doors behind you if possible, and call 911 to alert crews to your location. If escape is not possible, signal from a window and wait for rescue.
