RUSH TOWNSHIP, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Nov. 2, 2026 — One woman died and three other people, including two 6-year-old boys, were hurt on Sunday morning, November 1, in a head-on crash on Edwards Ridge Road Southeast in Rush Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. just south of the Ridge Road Southeast intersection. A 29-year-old Gnadenhutten woman was driving a sedan south with a 6-year-old boy in the back seat, while a 43-year-old Port Washington woman was driving an SUV north in the oncoming lane, also with a 6-year-old boy in the back seat.
Investigators said the sedan crossed left of center and struck the SUV head-on. Both drivers had to be freed from their vehicles with mechanical tools. The Gnadenhutten driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Port Washington driver, who was belted, was taken to a local hospital.
Both 6-year-old boys were flown by medical helicopter to Akron Children's Hospital. Their conditions have not been released. Troopers said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Our sympathies are with the family of the person who lost their life.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are head-on crashes so severe?
When two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide, their combined speed is applied in the impact, producing far greater force than a typical rear-end or side crash.
How can drivers avoid a head-on collision?
Staying alert for vehicles drifting out of their lane, avoiding distractions, and slowing down on curves or unfamiliar roads can give a driver extra seconds to react.
Where do most head-on crashes happen?
They frequently occur on two-lane rural roads without a center barrier, where there is only a painted line separating opposing traffic.
What role does passing play in head-on crashes?
Attempting to pass another vehicle on a two-lane road puts a driver temporarily in the oncoming lane, which can lead to a head-on crash if timing or visibility is misjudged.
