Frequently Asked Questions
Are pedestrian accidents more common at night?
Reduced visibility after dark makes it harder for drivers to see people on foot, and many pedestrian crashes happen at night or in low-light conditions, especially in areas with limited street lighting.
What should a pedestrian do after being hit by a car?
If possible, call 911, stay at the scene, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some injuries aren't immediately apparent. Getting the names of responding officers and any witnesses can help later.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
In Connecticut, pedestrians generally have the right of way in marked and unmarked crosswalks, but drivers and pedestrians both share responsibility for watching traffic signals and surrounding conditions before crossing or turning.
