Why Same-Lane Travel Can Still Lead to Crashes
Even when vehicles move in the same direction, collisions can happen if traffic patterns change quickly. Drivers may slow down for intersections, turns, or other vehicles, which can catch following drivers off guard.
Close spacing between vehicles often reduces the time available to react. If one driver brakes suddenly or misjudges distance, it can lead to a crash involving multiple vehicles in the same lane.
Road design also plays a part, especially near intersections where vehicles may enter or exit traffic. These areas require extra attention from drivers to adjust speed and maintain safe spacing.
