St. Charles Parish, LA (June 27, 2026) – A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 10 West near the Interstate 310 South split in St. Charles Parish on Thursday night. Officials arrived at the scene around 8:30 p.m. on June 25, following reports of a bicycle accident.

The Louisiana State Police said the bicyclist was traveling west on the right shoulder of Interstate 10 toward the Interstate 310 South on-ramp when the collision occurred. Investigators said a 2023 Dodge Ram was also traveling west on Interstate 10 while attempting to enter the Interstate 310 South on-ramp. For reasons still under investigation, the bicyclist crossed the southbound travel lanes of Interstate 310 toward the Interstate 10 gore area and was struck by the Dodge in the left lane.

The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dodge driver was not injured. Authorities are investigating the events that led to the fatal crash.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones.

What Investigators Review After a Fatal Bicycle Crash on a Highway

Bicycle crashes involving highways require a detailed review of roadway layout, traffic movement, and visibility conditions. Investigators may examine vehicle positions, lane markings, available evidence, and other factors to understand the sequence of events before the collision.

Highways present unique risks for bicyclists because of higher traffic speeds and limited protection compared to people inside vehicles. Areas where ramps merge with travel lanes can create additional challenges as vehicles and other road users move through changing traffic patterns. A complete review of the scene helps provide a clearer understanding of how the accident occurred.
