Scarborough, ME (July 1, 2026) – A bicyclist was injured on Tuesday morning, June 30, after a crash involving a car on Pine Point Road in Scarborough.
The crash happened around 10:40 a.m. near Pine Point Road and East Grand Avenue. The police said the bicyclist, a 66-year-old woman from Nevada, was hit on Pine Point Road in front of the Clambake Seafood Restaurant.
The bicyclist was brought to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Her name was not released in the initial report.
Investigators said the car later continued onto East Grand Avenue, where it struck a white Dodge pickup truck and a wooden fence before stopping. The pickup driver and a passenger were evaluated at the site and released.
Pine Point Road was closed between Ross Road and East Grand Avenue for about an hour, and East Grand Avenue was limited to one lane near the intersection. The Scarborough crash is still under investigation.
We hope the bicyclist and others involved recover fully.
Bicycle Crashes Near Coastal Roads Can Create Added Hazards
Bicycle crashes near busy coastal roads can be dangerous because drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians may all be moving through the same corridor. Restaurants, beach access points, parking areas, and intersections can create frequent turning and stopping movements.
Bicyclists have little protection when they are hit by a vehicle. Even injuries that are not life-threatening may require hospital care, especially when the rider is thrown, struck by the vehicle, or lands on the road.
Road closures after a bicycle crash may be needed so crews can keep traffic away from the affected lanes and check the area safely. Reviews usually focus on vehicle movement, visibility, lane position, traffic flow, and where the bicyclist was before contact.
