Why Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crashes Are Especially Concerning
Hit-and-run crashes involving bicyclists can create additional challenges for emergency response and investigation. When a driver leaves the scene, it can delay the identification of key details such as vehicle type, speed, and direction of travel.
Bicyclists are particularly vulnerable in roadway collisions because they have limited physical protection. Even at lower speeds, impacts can result in significant injuries. Intersections are common locations for these incidents due to turning movements and overlapping traffic paths. Law enforcement typically relies on witness statements, surveillance footage, and physical evidence to help identify drivers and understand how the crash occurred.
