Converse, TX (August 28, 2026) – A 46-year-old bicyclist was injured after a vehicle struck him late on Wednesday night in the 8600 block of FM 78. The collision was reported around 11:15 p.m.

Authorities found the man with serious injuries after the vehicle left the area. A nurse provided first aid until emergency units arrived, and the bicyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A witness followed the suspect vehicle, photographed its license plate, and provided officers with its direction of travel. Officers later located the vehicle in the 9100 block of FM 78 and stopped it.

Police identified the driver as Jenifer Lynn. She was arrested and faces charges of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, collision involving injury, and possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 under one gram. The investigation into the wreck remains active.

We hope the injured bicyclist makes a full recovery.

What Should Drivers Know About Bicycle Safety on Texas Roads?

Bicyclists have the same basic right to use public roads as other road users, but they face greater physical risks in a crash. Drivers should leave enough space when passing and check carefully for bicycles before turning or changing lanes.

At night, visibility can become a major concern for both motorists and cyclists. Bicyclists can improve visibility by using lights and reflective equipment, while drivers should reduce speed when visibility is limited.

Distracted driving can also make it harder to notice a bicycle in time. Checking mirrors, avoiding phone use, and scanning the road before making turns can help prevent dangerous encounters.

Hit-and-run cases involving cyclists can be especially difficult because the injured person may need immediate medical attention while the striking vehicle is no longer present.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
