Okeechobee, FL (September 3, 2026) – A 30-year-old bicyclist was killed on Wednesday, September 2, after being struck by a semi-trailer at the intersection of State Road 70 and U.S. Highway 441 in Okeechobee.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was traveling on State Road 70 and attempting to cross U.S. Highway 441 when he was struck by the right side of a semi-trailer. The truck tractor and semi-trailer were turning right from westbound State Road 70 onto northbound U.S. Highway 441 when the collision occurred.
The bicyclist was taken to HCA Florida Raulerson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m. The truck driver was not injured and initially left the scene, but was located about five miles away with the truck. The main traffic light at the intersection was temporarily closed while detours were put in place.
