Birmingham, AL (January 10, 2026) – Emergency personnel responded during the early morning hours of January 9 to a serious vehicle accident near 1st Ave N and 85th St N, close to the I-59 overpass. The crash was reported around 2:45 a.m. and involved a vehicle that came to rest under the overpass, trapping at least one person inside.
Multiple rescue units, including Engine 27, Rescue 27, and Battalion 4, arrived at the scene to assist. Firefighters worked urgently to extricate the individual from the wreckage while paramedics provided medical attention nearby. The extent of the injuries has not yet been disclosed, and the identity of the person involved has not been released.
Authorities closed portions of the surrounding area to allow for emergency operations. An investigation is currently underway to determine what led to the crash and whether any contributing factors such as speed or loss of control were involved.
