Why Pedestrian Crashes Often Occur Near Intersections and Turning Lanes
Pedestrian accidents frequently happen near intersections where drivers are focused on traffic signals, turning movements, and nearby vehicles. When a driver is preparing to turn onto a busy roadway, visibility and reaction time may become limited, especially in areas without marked crosswalks.
Roads with multiple lanes and steady traffic can create additional risks for people crossing outside designated pedestrian areas. Early morning conditions may also affect visibility depending on lighting, weather, and traffic volume at the time of the crash.
After a fatal pedestrian collision, investigators often review vehicle positioning, roadway markings, traffic patterns, and witness statements. They may also examine whether sightlines or roadway design played a part in the incident. These reviews can help clarify how the crash occurred and whether any contributing factors were present at the scene.
