Frequently Asked Questions
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
High speed, the angle of impact, and whether occupants are restrained all play a role. Crashes on highways like the Turnpike often involve higher speeds, which raises the chance of serious or fatal injury.
How does speed affect crash survivability?
Higher speeds mean more force at impact and less time for a driver to react. Even a modest increase in speed can significantly raise the severity of injuries in a crash.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
Seat belts keep occupants from being thrown from their seats or ejected from the vehicle, which are often the most serious outcomes in a high speed crash.
What should families do after a fatal crash?
Families can request a copy of the official crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol once it's finalized, and should keep records of any communications with investigators or insurers.
What to Do After a Fatal Turnpike Crash in Boca Raton, FL
If you're traveling near a crash scene on the Turnpike, stay in your vehicle unless directed otherwise and watch for emergency crews working close to live lanes. If you're involved in or witness a crash, move to a safe area if possible, call 911, and wait for troopers to arrive before discussing fault with anyone. Anyone involved in a highway crash, even if they feel fine, should get checked by a medical professional, since some injuries don't show symptoms right away. Keep any paperwork from police or medical providers, as it may be needed later for insurance or records purposes.
