Why Do Multi-Vehicle Motorcycle Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries?
Motorcycle crashes that involve several vehicles can result in more severe injuries because riders have less protection than people inside cars. Even at moderate speeds, the impact from multiple vehicles can throw a rider from the bike or trap them between cars.
On highways and turnpikes, traffic often moves quickly and closely together. When one crash happens, other drivers may not have much time or space to stop. This can lead to chain-reaction collisions that involve several vehicles.
Motorcycles are also smaller and can be harder for drivers to see, especially during busy travel times. In multi-vehicle situations, the size difference between a motorcycle and passenger cars can increase the risk of serious harm.
