How Wrong-Way Crashes Happen and Their Risks
Wrong-way crashes, though relatively rare, are usually severe due to the high speeds involved in head-on impacts. Drivers entering highways against traffic can quickly create dangerous situations, leaving little time for other motorists to react.
Nighttime and low-visibility conditions increase the risk, as it’s harder to spot vehicles traveling the wrong direction. Emergency responders must act fast to safely remove injured passengers and secure the scene.
Vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and speed all contribute to the severity of injuries in these types of crashes. Understanding these factors highlights why wrong-way collisions are especially dangerous on major highways.
