Serious Risks in Crashes Involving Dump Trucks
Crashes involving dump trucks can be severe because these vehicles are much larger and heavier than passenger cars. The force of impact can cause major damage to smaller vehicles, especially when the crash happens at an intersection.
People inside passenger cars may face a higher risk of serious or fatal injuries in these collisions. Impact angle, vehicle speed, seat position, and safety restraints can all affect the outcome.
Intersections used by both local drivers and heavy trucks may require extra space for turns and stops. Dump trucks may also have larger blind spots, which can make traffic movement more complex around them. After a major crash, damaged vehicles and debris can block lanes and create hazards for other drivers.
