Bonita Springs, FL (April 20, 2026) – A deadly crash Saturday night, April 18, at a Bonita Springs intersection claimed the lives of two people. The collision occurred at Imperial Parkway and East Terry Street involving a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle.
Authorities said an 18-year-old man from Fort Myers was riding northbound on Imperial Parkway at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 65-year-old Bonita Springs man was driving southbound in a sport utility vehicle and attempted a left turn at the intersection. Both vehicles had a green traffic signal when the sport utility vehicle turned into the motorcycle’s path, leading to a direct collision.
The motorcyclist became lodged in the front-right side of the sport utility vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene along with a 55-year-old female passenger from Bonita Springs who was inside the vehicle. The driver of the sport utility vehicle was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victims, and wish the injured driver a full recovery.
Why Left-Turn Motorcycle Crashes Can Be So Dangerous
Intersections are common locations for serious motorcycle crashes, especially when left turns are involved. Drivers turning left may misjudge the speed or distance of an oncoming motorcycle, increasing the risk of a direct impact.
Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than larger vehicles, which can make them harder to detect in traffic. Even when signals are green, timing and awareness are critical to avoid crossing into another vehicle’s path.
When a motorcycle strikes a larger vehicle, the rider often faces severe outcomes due to limited protection. Impact angles and speed differences can greatly affect the severity of injuries, particularly when collisions happen at busy intersections.
