Tampa, FL (April 20, 2026) – A three-vehicle crash on Saturday night, April 19, left four people injured along Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. The collision happened around 9:50 p.m. near Village Drive in Hillsborough County.
Authorities reported that a 31-year-old Tampa woman was driving southbound in a Toyota Corolla when she struck the rear of a Jeep Compass that had stopped in the center lane. The impact pushed the Jeep forward into a Dodge Challenger driven by a 38-year-old Tampa man.
All three drivers were hurt and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. A 44-year-old man from Minnesota, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was also injured and transported to a hospital. No further details about the extent of injuries have been released.
The crash remains under investigation. Busy approaches near Dale Mabry Highway and Village Drive can slow rapidly following crashes. Crews in Tampa may redirect traffic as needed while assisting those involved and clearing the scene.
Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
How Rear-End Crashes Can Lead to Multi-Vehicle Collisions
Rear-end crashes can quickly involve multiple vehicles, especially on busy roads where traffic moves in close spacing. When one vehicle stops unexpectedly, drivers behind may have little time to react, increasing the chance of a chain-reaction crash.
These types of collisions often push vehicles forward into others, creating a sequence of impacts. Even at moderate speeds, the force can cause injuries due to sudden stops and repeated contact between vehicles.
Driver attention and following distance are key factors in preventing these incidents. Maintaining space between vehicles and staying alert to changing traffic conditions can help reduce the risk of multi-car crashes.
