What Are the Risks of ATV and Dirt Bike Group Riding on Connecticut Roads?
ATVs, dirt bikes, and three-wheeled vehicles are generally not street-legal in Connecticut, which means they lack the safety features required for road use — things like turn signals, mirrors, and proper braking systems designed for traffic speeds. When these vehicles mix with cars at busy urban intersections, the risk of a serious crash rises significantly. Riders also have minimal physical protection compared to car occupants, making injuries more severe when a collision does happen.
Group riding adds another layer of risk, as riders may push each other to go faster or take more chances in traffic. Post-crash seizures, while alarming, can sometimes result from the sudden physical shock of a collision or a head injury. Trauma alerts are used when medical teams anticipate that a patient may need immediate intervention upon arrival at the hospital.
