How Head-on Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Head-on crashes can be severe because the front of each vehicle absorbs much of the impact. Even at moderate speeds, the force can injure drivers and passengers. These crashes may also trap people inside damaged vehicles.
Emergency crews may use specialized tools when doors or vehicle frames cannot be opened safely. This helps them reach injured people while reducing added movement. Fast medical care is often needed when multiple people are hurt.
Injury outcomes can vary based on speed, seat belt use, vehicle size, and impact angle. Airbags and other safety features may reduce harm, but they cannot prevent every injury. Hospital checks help confirm the full extent of a person’s condition after a serious collision.
