Why Pedestrian Expressway Crashes Are Often Fatal
Pedestrian crashes on major expressways frequently result in deadly injuries because vehicles are traveling at high speeds and drivers have limited time to react. Overnight and early morning conditions can further reduce visibility, making it harder for motorists to see a person in active traffic lanes.
Investigators often examine roadway access points, lighting conditions, traffic flow, and vehicle positioning when reviewing these collisions. Expressways are designed for uninterrupted vehicle movement, which means pedestrians face extreme danger when entering or crossing the roadway. Lane closures following these crashes are common while investigators document evidence and crews safely clear the roadway before traffic resumes.
