How Apartment Fires Can Spread Rapidly Through Multi-Unit Buildings
Apartment fires can become dangerous very quickly because flames and smoke may move through shared walls, ceilings, and ventilation systems. In multi-unit buildings, residents often have only a short amount of time to evacuate safely once a fire begins spreading.
Investigators typically examine electrical systems, cooking areas, heating equipment, and other possible ignition sources after a major apartment fire. Smoke damage can also extend far beyond the unit where the fire started, affecting neighboring apartments and personal property throughout the building. In many cases, nearby vehicles and exterior structures may also be damaged due to intense heat and airborne embers.
