Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes crashes like this one?
Running a red light or stop sign is one of the most common factors behind intersection crashes, along with following too closely, distraction and misjudging another driver's speed.
Does speed make a difference in how bad a crash turns out?
Yes. Higher speed means more force at impact and less time for drivers to react or brake, which tends to increase the severity of injuries and vehicle damage.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
A driver who glances at a phone or another distraction for even a few seconds can miss a changing light or a vehicle entering an intersection, leaving no time to stop or swerve.
Can weather or road conditions play a role in intersection crashes?
Rain, glare, fog or a slick road surface can all affect stopping distance and visibility, making it harder for a driver to react in time even when a light has just changed.
What to Do After an Intersection Crash in Bonner Springs, KS
If you're involved in a crash at an intersection, start by checking yourself and any passengers for injuries, then move to a safe spot if the vehicle is drivable. Call 911 so officers can respond and document the scene. Even if you feel fine, it's worth getting checked by a medical provider, since some injuries from an impact don't show symptoms right away. Exchange information with other drivers, note any traffic signals or signs nearby, and if it's safe to do so, take photos of the vehicles and the intersection. Keep a copy of the official crash report once it's available, as it can be useful for insurance or medical follow-up in Bonner Springs or anywhere else.
