Boston, MA (January 7, 2026) – A house fire in South Boston on Tuesday night left one person hospitalized and two pets dead, according to officials with the Boston Fire Department. The fire broke out around 8:43 p.m. at 843 E 4th St, where smoke was seen coming from the multi-family residence.
Firefighters arrived quickly and worked to control the blaze, which started in the basement of the three-story, six-family building and extended to the first floor rear. Heavy smoke damage affected the upper floors, with estimated damages reaching $600,000.
Three individuals sustained injuries, and one was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for smoke inhalation. In addition, seven residents were displaced and are receiving assistance from Boston Fire and the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
