Boulder, CO (March 7, 2026) – A 21-year-old man was seriously injured early on Friday morning, March 6, after being struck by a vehicle following a scooter accident at Broadway and 17th Street in Boulder.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:19 a.m. The injured man was a passenger on a Lime scooter traveling along the west sidewalk of Broadway when he lost his balance and fell into the street. A dark, four-door Jeep traveling south on Broadway struck him and did not stop.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. The 22-year-old scooter operator was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence. Authorities have identified the Jeep through photos but have not yet located the vehicle or its driver. The Jeep is registered to a Boulder address and may have a sticker reading “Raise hell and hug trees.”
Officials continue to investigate the hit-and-run.
We are thinking of the injured scooter as they recover from this serious accident.
Hit-and-Run Crashes and Scooter Safety
Scooter accidents can quickly become dangerous when riders fall into traffic. Unlike cars, scooters provide no protective barrier, and even low-speed collisions with vehicles can cause serious injury. Passengers are especially vulnerable if the scooter is not designed to carry more than one person.
Hit-and-run incidents create additional risk because medical attention may be delayed, and identifying the responsible driver can take time. Authorities rely on witness statements, photos, and vehicle descriptions to locate drivers and provide support to injured parties. Awareness, protective gear, and safe riding practices can help reduce the likelihood of serious scooter crashes.
