Hudson, FL (June 14, 2026) – A 10-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being struck by two vehicles while attempting to cross SR-52 near Victory Drive in Hudson on Friday afternoon, June 12.
According to reports, the crash occurred at approximately 12:25 p.m. The child was riding a bicycle when he exited a gas station located along SR-52 and attempted to cross the highway. A Kia Niro driven by a 45-year-old Hudson woman was traveling westbound in the center lane when the bicycle entered its path.
Officials said the initial impact threw the child into an adjacent westbound lane, where he was then struck by a Ford F-350 operated by a 35-year-old Riverview man. Emergency units responded to the scene and arranged for the boy to be airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Neither of the drivers involved was reported hurt in the incident. Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with the injured child.
What Factors Can Affect Bicycle Safety Along Busy Highways?
Bicycle crashes on multi-lane roadways can be especially dangerous because riders are exposed to fast-moving traffic and have limited protection during an impact. Crossing wide highways may require cyclists to navigate several lanes of vehicles traveling at varying speeds, which can reduce the time available for both riders and drivers to react.
Visibility is another factor that can influence safety. Drivers may have difficulty spotting a cyclist entering a roadway from a parking lot, gas station, or side entrance, particularly when traffic is heavy. Road design, traffic volume, speed limits, and the location of designated crossing points can also affect how safely bicyclists are able to travel through an area. Reviewing these conditions often helps provide a clearer picture of how bicycle-related crashes occur and what circumstances may have contributed to the incident.
