Boyce, LA (April 28, 2026) – A Shreveport man lost his life following a three-vehicle collision early Monday morning, April 27, in Rapides Parish near Boyce. The crash occurred around 5:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 1.
According to preliminary findings, the driver of a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck reportedly failed to slow down and struck a 2022 Kawasaki motorcycle from behind. Investigators said the impact ejected the motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Dillon Jenkins, into the roadway, where he was then hit by a 2019 Toyota.
Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the other drivers involved in the crash were not injured. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers as part of the investigation.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Dillon Jenkins.
Why Rear-End Motorcycle Crashes Can Become Fatal
Motorcyclists face a high risk of severe injury during rear-end collisions because they do not have the structural protection found in passenger vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can throw a rider from the motorcycle and into nearby traffic lanes, creating additional danger from secondary impacts.
Investigators reviewing these crashes often examine traffic flow, following distance, driver visibility, and braking patterns before the collision. Early morning conditions, including reduced lighting and driver alertness, may also be considered. In multi-vehicle accidents, roadway evidence and vehicle damage can help determine the sequence of impacts. Toxicology testing is commonly performed after fatal crashes to gather a complete understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
