Frequently Asked Questions
Does impairment contribute to fatal crashes?
Impairment from alcohol or drugs is a common factor in fatal crashes nationwide, but it can only be confirmed through toxicology results and official findings, which have not been released in this case.
Where do fatal multi-vehicle crashes tend to happen?
They frequently occur on higher-speed highways and rural routes, where vehicles close distance quickly and there is less time to react to a sudden hazard ahead.
What makes a crash more likely to be fatal?
Higher speeds, the number of vehicles involved, and whether occupants are trapped or thrown from their seating position all increase the chances of serious or fatal injury.
How does speed affect whether people survive a crash?
Higher speeds mean more force is released in a collision, which raises the risk of severe injury and lowers the chance of survival, especially in multi-vehicle wrecks.
