What Investigators Typically Examine After a Single-Vehicle Highway Crash
After a single-vehicle crash on a highway, investigators usually focus on how and why the vehicle left the roadway. This can include reviewing road markings, tire tracks, and the point of impact with barriers or roadside structures.
Speed is often evaluated along with driver behavior leading up to the crash. Roadway conditions, visibility, and traffic flow at the time may also be reviewed to build a clearer timeline of events.
In crashes involving multiple occupants, medical reports and vehicle seating positions may help determine how each person was affected. Damage patterns on the vehicle and barrier impact points are also commonly analyzed to understand the force and direction of the collision.
