What Makes Wrong-Way Crashes So Deadly on Highways?
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of traffic incidents due to the high likelihood of head-on collisions. These crashes often occur at highway speeds, which significantly increases the force of impact and the severity of injuries.
Factors such as impaired driving, confusion, or missed signage can lead drivers to enter roadways in the wrong direction. Early morning hours, when visibility is reduced, and traffic is lighter, are particularly common times for these types of crashes.
Because drivers traveling in the correct direction may have little time to react, avoiding a wrong-way vehicle can be extremely difficult. Increased awareness, proper signage, and immediate reporting of suspected wrong-way drivers can help reduce the risk of these tragic incidents.
