Canton Twp, MI (March 20, 2026) – Three people remain hospitalized with serious injuries following a fiery multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday at Ford Road and Haggerty Road. Emergency units responded to the scene after multiple vehicles collided and caught fire at the busy intersection.
Authorities say an SUV was traveling the wrong way on Haggerty Road when it struck a box truck and then hit the fuel tank of a semi-truck. The impact caused a fuel spill that quickly ignited, engulfing vehicles in flames. Three occupants of the SUV were seriously hurt and taken to hospitals, while six officers and the semi-truck driver were treated for minor injuries and later released.
The fire was brought under control within minutes, but not before causing significant damage to nearby traffic signals. Crews also worked to contain the fuel spill and prevent environmental harm.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
How Fuel-Related Crashes Can Escalate Quickly
Crashes involving fuel spills can quickly become dangerous. When fuel leaks from a vehicle after impact, it can ignite and spread fire rapidly across the roadway. This can trap occupants and increase the risk of serious injuries.
Large vehicles like semi-trucks often carry significant amounts of fuel, which can make these situations more severe. Fires may also damage nearby infrastructure, including traffic signals and road surfaces. Emergency crews must act quickly to control the flames and contain any hazardous materials. Rapid response and coordination are key to reducing risks in these high-impact incidents.
