CASTROVILLE, Monterey County, Calif., Nov. 8, 2026 — A driver was injured on Thursday afternoon, November 5, in a hit-and-run crash near County Road G12 and Castroville Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was first logged as a traffic hazard involving a gray Tesla before CHP dispatch records show a report that the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene. A sheriff's deputy reportedly came across the crash scene while on patrol. The occupant of the Tesla called in to advise that they were injured, according to the CHP incident log.
CHP upgraded the case from a hit-and-run with no injuries to a felony hit-and-run with injuries. The fleeing driver was described as a man in a beige plaid shirt driving a white Ford Ranger that reportedly left the roadway into nearby bushes before continuing, possibly westbound. CHP units were sent to the area to help direct traffic around roadway equipment left at the scene.
The extent of the injured driver's injuries has not been released. The search for the Ford Ranger and its driver was ongoing as of the latest update, and the incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should a driver do if they're hit by another vehicle that flees the scene?
Drivers should move to safety if possible, call 911, and try to note details about the other vehicle, such as its color, make, direction of travel and license plate, since this information helps investigators identify the driver later.
What are common injuries in hit-and-run crashes?
Injuries can range from cuts and bruises to broken bones, head injuries, or more serious internal injuries, depending on the speed and angle of impact.
What are the most common causes of car accidents?
Distraction, failure to yield, following too closely, and misjudging another driver's speed or position are frequent factors in roadway crashes.
How does speed affect crash severity?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which tends to make injuries more severe.
