Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered such a serious risk on highways?
Even a few seconds of taken attention at highway speed can mean traveling a long distance without a driver watching the road, which cuts down the time available to react to a stopped or slowing vehicle ahead.
How do road and weather conditions play into crashes like this one?
Glare, debris, uneven pavement, or reduced visibility at intersections can all affect a driver's ability to judge gaps in traffic, especially at rural highway crossings where vehicles move at higher speeds.
What should someone do right after being in a car accident?
Move to a safe spot if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with the other driver while waiting for law enforcement to arrive and document the scene.
Where do most traffic accidents tend to happen?
Intersections, including rural highway crossings like the one at SR-63 and Avenue 413, see a large share of collisions because of crossing and turning traffic.
