Cedar Co, IA (January 26, 2026) – A tragic accident early on Saturday morning claimed the life of a pedestrian who was struck by one or more vehicles on Interstate 80 in Cedar County. The Iowa State Patrol has launched an investigation into the fatal incident.
According to the official crash report, the incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on January 24, near the 277-mile marker of I-80. Responding troopers arrived to find the pedestrian lying in the roadway with fatal injuries after being hit by at least one passing vehicle. Details about how the pedestrian came to be on the interstate remain unclear.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim. The body was transported to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) lab in Ankeny for further examination and confirmation of identity.
Investigators are working to determine how the incident unfolded and are reviewing potential surveillance footage and witness accounts. It is unknown at this time whether any of the involved vehicles remained at the scene or if additional factors contributed to the incident.
