Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed affect whether people survive a crash?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the risk of serious or fatal injury.
Why does wearing a seat belt matter so much?
A seat belt keeps occupants from being thrown from the vehicle or slammed into the interior or the roof, which lowers the chance of severe injury or death in a crash.
What should a family do after a fatal crash?
Families typically wait for the investigating agency, in this case TxDOT, to release official findings, and can request a copy of the crash report once it becomes available.
How are fatal crashes like this one investigated?
Investigators usually examine the scene, vehicle damage and any available video or witness accounts to determine how the crash happened before issuing a final report.
