Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to watch for motorcycles?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice before turning or changing lanes, and giving extra space at intersections, helps drivers spot motorcycles that can be hard to see against traffic or road clutter.
What should a rider do after a motorcycle crash?
Riders should move to safety if possible, call 911, and avoid removing protective gear unless necessary, since gear can help limit further injury until paramedics arrive.
Are motorcycle crashes more common at intersections?
Many motorcycle crashes happen at intersections, usually because a turning vehicle fails to see or judge the speed of an oncoming motorcycle.
How does road surface affect motorcycle safety?
Loose gravel, wet pavement and uneven surfaces reduce a motorcycle's traction more than they affect a car, making road conditions an important factor in rider safety.
