Lumberton, NC (July 21, 2026) – A 30-year-old man died in a head-on collision on Sunday evening, July 19, on Saddletree Road. The two-vehicle crash was reported at approximately 7:36 p.m.
A 2019 Honda Civic driven west by Everildo G. Zapete-Jimenez of Lumberton crossed the center line. The car then struck a 2020 Chevrolet pickup traveling eastbound.
After contact, the Honda came to a partial stop in the roadway, facing northwest. The pickup also came to rest partly on the pavement and faced north.
Zapete-Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency units took the pickup driver to UNC Health Southeastern with minor injuries. Speed was not considered a factor, while impairment was suspected.
The accident remains under examination as additional evidence is reviewed. We offer sincere condolences to Zapete-Jimenez’s family and hope the other driver recovers comfortably.
