What Causes Traffic Disruptions After Multi-Vehicle Highway Crashes?
Main travel routes near Interstate 74 and Interstate 57 can see delays after collisions. Injury accident scenes in Champaign may involve lane restrictions while crews work to assist those involved and clear the roadway.
When several vehicles are involved, debris and damaged vehicles can block lanes, requiring temporary closures. Large vehicles like semi-trucks may take longer to remove, which can extend delays.
Traffic is often redirected to nearby roads during closures. As conditions improve and lanes reopen, congestion may continue briefly until traffic flow returns to normal.
